From a Mount Austin Gym to The Colosseum: 16 Years of Ultimate Beatdown

Ultimate Beatdown didn't appear overnight. Malaysia's longest-running MMA promotion grew across five distinct eras, each defined by a venue and a moment in the local sport's history. Here's the journey — from a gym in Mount Austin to 60+ events and counting.

The Gym Era (2010–2012)

It began at the Ultimate MMA Academy in Mount Austin as "Ultimate Fight Night" — invitation-only fight nights. Those gym cards became UB 1 through 8, including UB 5 "MMA Unleashed" (Nov 2011) and UB 8 "Vengeance" (May 2012). Small crowds, raw talent, and the foundation of everything that followed.

The Bar Era (2012–2013)

UB outgrew the gym and moved to the bars of Danga Bay — De'Bali Restaurant and Cheers Bar & Grill. The crowds swelled past 600. UB 11 "Armageddon" (Mar 2013) packed Cheers Bar, and the promotion's reputation grew with every card.

The Mall Era (2013–2014)

Then UB went big — into KSL City Mall with UB 13 "Road to Glory" (Nov 2013). It was a landmark moment: ONE FC CEO Victor Cui attended UB 13 and bought his own ticket — a sign the wider MMA world had noticed what was happening in Johor. UB 14 followed at Educity Iskandar, Nusajaya.

The Plaza Sentosa Era (2014–2020)

The golden era. For six years, UB called the 8th-floor rooftop of Plaza Sentosa home, staging 20+ open-air fight nights under the Johor sky (UB 15–36). UB 15 opened the era with 20 fights. The promotion also went on the road — UB 28 "Borneo" (2018) was its first away event in Sabah, and UB 34 reached Labuan in 2019. UB 36 "New Era" (Mar 2020) was the last card before the COVID MCO shutdown.

The Colosseum Era (2021–Present)

After a 20-month COVID gap, UB roared back with UB 37 "Ascendance" (Nov 2021) at The Colosseum MMA. The comeback era brought elevated production and expanded reach across Johor — from UB 44 "Dawn of the Conqueror" to UB 54 "Merdeka Fight" at Aeon Mall Kulaijaya and UB 56 "The Reckoning." The count is now past UB 60.
